Q & A

There are so many questions that the artisans are asked each year.  Here are their answers...

Q: When is Spooky Hollow open?
A:  We light up Spooky Hollow every Friday and Saturday night beginning October 1st through the last week in October.  The last week in October we light it up every night until Halloween.

Q: Why aren't the buildings open through October?
A:  In the 14 years that we have been hosting Spooky Hollow, we have never opened the buildings until Halloween.  It is really hard for us to get our crew together even on Halloween let alone the rest of the weekends.

Q: Do we walk through your house?
A:  Sorry, no.  The Pit is our deck and it measures 10 feet squared.  You walk in and get scared and walk out.

Q:  How many people can go in at a time?
A:  We only alow up to 4 people at a time.

Q: Is is scary?  What age group is it for?
A:  Yes, it is scary.  Only you know your child. Therefore, you must make that decision.  It is our experience that the younger they are the least scared they are.  The older the guest, the more scared they are.  The reason for this is that each guest must have an imagination to gain the full experience from Spooky Hollow.

Q: Why can't we walk through the yard?
A:  There are so many eletric chords, enough to go from Spooky Hollow to St. Paul, MN, that we do not want people to trip or destroy what we have built.

Q: What does the costume contest entail?
A:  You can view that by clicking here.

Q:  Does it cost to get in?
A:  We accept a free will donation.  We pride our selves in providing a fun, inexpensive place to go on Halloween.  We are all in this recession together.  We need to help each other.  Therefore, we do not charge to go in.

Q: Where does the donated money go?
A:  It costs us over $10,000 per year to put this on.  So the money goes directly back into Spooky Hollow to enhance it for next year's haunt.  (Please note that we are lucky if we collect $100 per year in donations.)

Q: Do you accept non monetary donations?
A: Yes.  We are always looking for certain items.  You can always view our list by clicking here.

Q: Where do you get all this stuff?
A: Many of the items we make.  There are some things that are bought and torn apart to make better.

Q;  How do you make this stuff?
A: Very carefully.

Q:  Where do you store all this stuff?
A:  It just appears and then it disappears!

Q:  How old do you have to be to help?
A:  Provided that you meet our requirements, you must be at least 18 years old or older.

Q: How long does it take to set up?
A:  We begin setting up on Labor Day.  Therefore, it takes us two months to set up, 8 to 10 hours on Halloween to put the final touches on.  We run it about 4 to 6 hours depending on the guests and day of the week Halloween lands on.  Then we take it down that night and spend two days  organizing it and putting it away.

Q: How long do you work on it through the year?
A:  It averages out to be around 2 to 8 hours per day all year round.  As we are working on this year's haunt, we are making notes on what we will be doing for next year's haunt.

Q: Can I take pictures or video?
A:  Yes, we allow photographs and video on the outside.  However, all cameras and electric recording devises are banned from the buildings.
